About

Hi! I’m Amy

Thanks for being here and sharing the love of travel.

A little about me and how I got here:

I had my first solo trip abroad to Miami in the Spring of 2018 (job perks). That Fall, one of my best friends had just come back from New York and told me about her experience with hostels. “What’s that?” I had asked. For only $10 a day, you can have somewhere to sleep, AND meet people from all around the world?! I was shocked. Intrigued (and a little nervous), I booked my first trip to Europe when I conveniently found a Wowair advertisement on my Facebook feed for $199 to Amsterdam from Canada.  Yes, travelling can be that cheap. (RIP Wowair is now bankrupt). One destination led to another, and so my journey begins to see all around the world. 23 countries later, here we are.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How many countries have you been to?

23 Countries

2. Aren’t you scared? Travelling alone? As a woman?

We cannot let fear stop us from exploring the world. I’ve felt nervous, stressed, concerned – but I have never felt like I was in grave danger at any point of my travels (except one time I was being followed – I’ll write about that later). Sure, perhaps there were a few times I also felt “unsafe” but that can happen anywhere (ie. crossing a dark alley at night, finding someone’s stare at you a little more than you’re comfortable with). I think there’s too many misconceptions about countries that we’re unfamiliar with, particularly developing countries. While there are certainly a few countries and regions of countries one should avoid, you’ll be surprised to learn how many countries are very travel-friendly, for women too.

3. How do you afford to travel?

I’ve been very lucky that I have been able to save from part-time and full time jobs since I was 16. I currently work in tech. I tend to stay at hostels for more affordable accommodations, and I use my favourite website www.skyscanner.com to find cheap flights and destinations.

4. What is your favourite place you’ve been to?

This question is so hard to answer because every destination is different, and each experience has a special place in my heart and memories. However, these were some of my moments:
– Sea-canoeing in Phang Nga Bay, Thailand
– Dancing all night for in Berlin’s techno scene
– Deep late night conversations in Porto – so much beauty in Portugual
– Getting adventurous in Panama, island hopping and living in the jungles/mountain tops
